Female Design Team
The female design team is a space for the women of ASME to come together to improve design and machining skills with the goal of giving members engineering experience. The team competed in the Autodesk Design Competition during Spring 2021.
Autodesk Design Competition
During the Spring 2021 semester, Purdue ASME members competed in a design challenge to create a 2-in-1 skateboard/scooter. Teams developed a digital prototype with the help of Fusion 360 and Generative Design. The winning team received a scholarship, and their prototype was incorporated in Purdue's Mechanical Engineering Technology curriculum.
Every year, the National Rube Goldberg society selects a simple action to be carried out through complex mechanical processes--including zipping a zipper or hammering a nail. 2019’s task was to shine a shoe, one of the crazier tasks we have seen. The humor behind Rube Goldberg machines comes from the use of everyday objects to set off crazy chain reactions. Teams were encouraged to think of unique themes to base their machines in, as design and aesthetics are as much a part of the creative process as mechanical devices and machines themselves.
The epitome of mechanical engineering on campus, ASME builds a go-kart to race against other teams from Purdue and other colleges. The team works together to innovate the fastest and strongest kart to take home the gold. This Grand Prix team did not compete during the 2020-2021 school year, but we are excited to get the team up and running soon!
